Biology Trip
Yesterday, Prof. Silvano, Mrs. Zuercher and Mr. Dewey travelled with the sophomore class to Marujá, on Ilha do Cardoso, near the southern border of the state of São Paulo.

The purpose of the trip is to see the glory of God’s creation and for students to experience different ecosystems found in Brazil.  They will have the opportunity to hike through the Atlantic rainforest and swim in waterfall, an estuary and a mangrove swamp.  Students will identify the structure and composition of each system then compare and contrast them in terms of temperature, elevation, moisture, sunlight, animals, plants and soil types.  The trip also provides plenty of time for relaxing, class bonding and worship.

Math Counts
Harry Cho, Pedro Teixeira, Bruno Kim, David Lee, Caroline Lister, Jinny Lee, Grace Baik and Rafael Rugg will represent PACA at the middle school Math Counts competition that will be hosted by OLM in Rio De Janeiro on March 13 & 14.

No School
There will be no school on Friday, March 21. All PACA teachers will attend the AASSA Educators Conference at Graded School from Thursday evening (March 20) until Saturday (March 22). The school office will be open on March 21.

International Festival
This year’s International Festival will take place on Saturday, March 29.

Ticket prices are the following: R$35,00 per adult (over 18 years old); R$18,00 for non-PACA students (between 6 to 18 years old). You may purchase extra tickets to give to your friends and family. Look for the “Family Package” special prices on the order form. Free admission to children 5 years and younger.

A letter with more information about the event was sent home this week.

Easter Food Drive
Every year, the high school Student Council organizes a food drive to help provide for the needs of the children from Lar Tia Edna. These donations supply the orphanage with over four months of their basic needs.  Each class has been assigned a goal with specific items, in order to use our resources in the best possible way.  Please check with your child to find out which products his or her class was assigned to bring. Monetary donations will also be gladly accepted. The food drive will end on Thursday, April 17. A letter with more information will be sent home tomorrow.

News from the Elementary Principal
During our last Elementary chapel, Mr. André Leitão (father of Adriel and Eloana) shared about the Syrian refugees they are working with here in São Paulo. Mr. Leitão shared pictures, talked about loving those around us and sharing God’s love with them.  These refugees have nothing with them.  As a way of responding to what they heard, our students can give to help others around them.  We are collecting hygiene items, such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrushes and tooth paste. This is not required, but we wanted to give the students a simple way to help someone else.  The Elementary teachers have already shared this with their homerooms.  If you have any questions, please see or e-mail Miss Kierstead.

The Science Fair, Art Show and Library Sale are coming. Mark your calendars for April 11 at 8 p.m.! Please remember that attendance at this event is required for students in Kindergarten – 8th grade.

Parent, Teacher Student Conferences (PTS)
Parent, Teacher, Student Conferences are coming up in a month! Our office staff will call you to set up appointments for Wednesday, April 9.  Students in Kindergarten - 12th grade need to accompany their parents to the meetings. Please arrive 30 minutes before your first appointment. This will give you time to look over your child’s portfolio, and prevent the conferences from running late.

High school and middle school students that were on the honor roll during 1st and 2nd quarters will be exempt from second semester conferences, if all of their grades are C and above this quarter. If your child is exempt from conferences, but you would like to meet with the teachers, you are welcome to do so.

6th and 7th grade Camp
“I have overcome by fear of heights,” was the response of one 6th grade student when asked what the best part of the retreat was. Students had the opportunity to do kayaking, stand-up paddle, a ropes course, a wall climb, and two types of zip line. In addition to learning to overcome fears, a main emphasis at the retreat was to improve the relationships between 6th grade and 7th grade students. An activity designed to get the boys working together was the final lunch when the boys served as waiters for the girls. Most importantly, our speaker, Gui Fadlalla, reminded the students that they did not need to live their lives trying to earn either God´s approval nor the approval of their peers.

Acampamento do 6º e 7º ano
