Mid-Term Reports
Mid-term reports will be sent home tomorrow. Parent signed mid-term slips are due on Friday, March 6.

Registration Forms
Parents, completed and signed registration forms for the 2015-16 school are due tomorrow, February 27. If you need another copy, please call the school office.

Professional Development Afternoon
All students will be dismissed at 12:20 p.m. tomorrow, February 27, due to the teachers’ professional development afternoon. The school buses will leave PACA at 12:55 p.m. Students in Pre-K – 12th grade will eat lunch on campus before dismissal.


Candlelight Dinner

The juniors’ traditional Candlelight Dinner will take place this Saturday, February 28, at 8 p.m. in the school gym. The doors will open at 7:30 p.m.


Gym Closed

The gym will be closed for all activities until March 2, due to the upcoming Candlelight Dinner.

There will be no school on Friday, March 13, due to the teachers’ professional development day.


International Festival

This year’s International Festival will take place on Saturday, April 25. Mark your calendars!

Sports
The new sports season has begun, and new athletes have joined our athletics program. Like we did last semester, we will order athletic warm-ups for all team members. If your child has not purchased one yet or would like to purchase another one, please contact Mrs. Buchanan by March 3. Mrs. Buchanan has sample sizes to be tried on, if needed. This is a mandatory uniform for all athletes participating in the sports tournaments.

The home games against Graded will be made up on Tuesday, March 3, at 5 p.m. The JV boys and varsity girls will play first.

The JV Volleyball and Futsal Festival is coming up on Saturday, March 7. The boys will play at Chapel, and the girls will play at St. Paul´s. Chapel’s booster club will sell meals. St. Paul´s usually doesn´t have very many food options. If you are willing to help the JV girls with lunch, please contact Mrs. Buchanan at [email protected]. Your help is greatly appreciated – the festival is a long day for the athletes. The schedule for both festivals can be found on Edline. Please plan to be at the host school at least 30 minutes before your child´s  first game.

Monday: beef, rice, black beans, chuchu

Tuesday: breaded chicken fingers, rice, beans, cream corn

Wednesday: Shepherd’s pie (with beef jerky), rice, beans, broccoli

Thursday: roast chicken, rice, beans, carrots and green beans

Friday: pasta with two sauces

Donations needed: One of the middle school Big Brother Big Sister groups is collecting used toys in good condition to donate to the Lar Efrata orphanage. Donations can be placed in the boxes by the Kindergarten and 5th grade classrooms until March 6.

Books: Fátima Leitão has eight copies of the book, “Famílias em Direção ao Campo,” by Jane Susan Greenwood for donation. If you would like a copy, please contact Fátima at [email protected].

Sale: You are invited - and bring a friend! The Dave Santos family will have a SALE on March 6 and 7. We will sell new and gently used items: clothing, dishes, small furniture items, decorations, shoes (both new and used), etc.

Boys’ Gymnastics: Gymnastics for PACA boys in 1st - 5th grade will be offered every Monday from 3:45 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. beginning on March 2nd. The matriculation is R$120, and the monthly fee is R$120. Contact Cally Magalhães at [email protected] if you are interested. A parent needs to be present at the class, so please let Cally know if you would be willing to go on the rotation for this.

Os boletins mensais serão enviados para casa amanhã. Os canhotos assinados pelos pais deverão ser entregues até o dia 06 de março.

Pais, formulários de rematrícula preenchidos e assinados deverão ser entregues até amanhã, dia 27 de fevereiro. Caso precisem de outra cópia, por favor, entrem em contato com a secretaria.

Tarde de Capacitação Profissional
Os alunos serão dispensados às 12h20 amanhã, dia 27 de fevereiro, devido à tarde de capacitação profissional dos professores. Os ônibus escolares sairão da PACA às 12h55. Os alunos da pré-escola ao 12º ano almoçarão na escola antes de serem liberados.

Jantar à Luz de Velas (Candlelight Dinner)
O tradicional Jantar à Luz de Velas, organizado pelos alunos do 11º ano, acontecerá nesse sábado, dia 28 de fevereiro, às 20 horas no ginásio. As portas estarão abertas a partir das 19h30.

Ginásio Fechado
O ginásio estará fechado para todas as atividades até o dia 02 de março, devido aos preparativos para o Jantar à Luz de Velas.

Festival Internacional
O Festival Internacional desse ano acontecerá no sábado, dia 25 de abril. Reservem a data em seus calendários!

Esportes
A nova temporada esportiva começou, e novos atletas agora fazem parte do nosso programa. Como fizemos no semestre passado, encomendaremos agasalhos para todos os membros dos times esportivos. Caso o seu filho ainda não tenha comprado um agasalho, ou queira comprar outro, por favor, entrem em contato com a Mrs. Buchanan até o dia 03 de março. A Mrs. Buchanan tem amostras para os atletas que quiserem provar os tamanhos. Esse agasalho é uniforme obrigatório para os atletas que participarão dos torneios.

Os jogos em casa contra a Graded foram remarcados para terça-feira, dia 03 de março, às 17 horas. Os meninos do JV e as meninas do varsity jogarão primeiro.

O festival de vôlei e futsal do JV acontecerá no sábado, dia 07 de março. Os meninos jogarão na Chapel, e as meninas na St. Paul’s. Pais da Chapel venderão refeições. Na St. Paul’s há poucas opções de comida. Caso queira ajudar a levar o almoço das meninas do JV, por favor, entrem em contato com a Rachel Buchanan por e-mail ([email protected]). Sua ajuda é valiosa – as alunas participarão de muitos jogos no dia do festival. O horário de jogos dos festivais está no Edline. Por favor, estejam na escola sede pelo menos 30 minutos antes do primeiro jogo do seu filho.

Candlelight Dinner
The juniors’ traditional Candlelight Dinner is coming up! Buy your tickets soon before they sell out. Tickets purchased this week will cost R$45.00. See you on Saturday, February 28!

Summer School
The University of California, Berkeley-Haas School of Business presents the Berkeley Business Academy for Youth.  Students participate in two weeks of sessions and social activities. The sessions are delivered on the UC Berkeley campus.  The curriculum is designed at grade appropriate levels for middle and high school students as an introduction to the world of business and entrepreneurship. Curriculum Highlights: Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Teamwork, Critical Thinking, Corporate Structure, Corporate Social Responsibility, Financial Accounting, Pricing Strategies, Marketing, Finance, Game Theory, Public Speaking and Presentation Skills.

International Festival
This year’s International Festival will take place on Saturday, April 25. Mark your calendars!

Sports
Our next unit of after school recreational sports (which counts as sports credit for high school students) is coming up! From February 23 to March 6, we will offer girls’ futsal and boys’ volleyball. Girls’ futsal will first practice first, and boys’ volleyball will practice second. The coaches will be Mr. Buchanan for girls’ futsal and Mr. Rugg for boys’ volleyball. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Buchanan.

There will be no practices or late bus this Friday due to the Carnaval weekend.

 

The varsity volleyball and futsal teams will play against St. Paul’s on Friday, February 20, at home. The games will start at 5 p.m.

Monday: no school

Tuesday: no school

Wednesday: no school

Thursday: grilled chicken breasts, rice, beans, eggplant

A Escola de Negócios Berkeley-Haas da Universidade da Califórnia oferece um curso na Academia de Negócios para Jovens Berkeley. Os alunos terão duas semanas de aulas e atividades sociais. As aulas acontecerão no campus da UC Berkeley. O currículo foi desenvolvido para alunos do Ensino Fundamental II e Ensino Médio como uma introdução ao mundo dos negócios e empreendedorismo. Ênfase do currículo: Empreendedorismo, Liderança, Trabalho em Equipe, Pensamento Crítico, Estrutura Corporativa, Responsabilidade Social Empresarial, Contabilidade, Estratégias de Preços, Marketing, Finanças, Teoria dos Jogos, Oratória e Técnicas de Apresentação.

6th & 7th Grade Camp
The 6th and 7th graders will go to Camp Rio Selvagem in Juquitiba on February 5 and 6. Students will leave PACA at 8:20 a.m. on Thursday, and return by 3:20 p.m. on Friday.

Candlelight Dinner
It's February, and the juniors’ traditional Candlelight Dinner is coming up! Buy your tickets soon before they sell out. Tickets purchased on the first week of sales will only be R$40.00. See you on February 28!

Gym Closed
The gym will be closed for all activities from February 25 to March 2, due to the upcoming Candlelight Dinner.

Used Uniforms
We have several sizes used school uniforms that are in good condition for donation in the main office. If you are interested, please contact Denise Deal.

News from the Guidance Counselor
There will be a mini college fair at PACA, focusing on Canadian institutions, on March 9.  The college fair will be held in the auditorium, starting at 9 a.m. with a small presentation about studying and living in Canada.   The junior class will participate. PACA high school students who are not juniors, but would like to attend, need to contact Mrs. Kuhnast to reserve a spot. All parents are welcome. 

PACA will host the Linden College Fair in the cafeteria on March 20, from 8 to 9 a.m. Approximately twenty five American colleges and universities will participate.  Students in 7th – 11th grade will have the privilege of attending the fair and the opportunity to talk to the college representatives. Parents of students in any grade level are always welcome.

Summer School
The University of California, Berkeley-Haas School of Business presents the Berkeley Business Academy for Youth.  Students participate in two weeks of sessions and social activities. The sessions are delivered on the UC Berkeley campus.  The curriculum is designed at grade appropriate levels for middle and high school students as an introduction to the world of business and entrepreneurship. Curriculum Highlights: Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Teamwork, Critical Thinking, Corporate Structure, Corporate Social Responsibility, Financial Accounting, Pricing Strategies, Marketing, Finance, Game Theory, Public Speaking and Presentation Skills.

Imperial College London Global Summer School: If you are aged between 15 and 17 years old and have a passion for science, technology, engineering or mathematics, then the Imperial College London Global Summer School is just the opportunity for you!  Besides classes there will be opportunities for day trips to famous UK cities, team building tasks,  London tours and theatre shows.  For more information, go to   http://www.imperial.ac.uk/be-inspired/global-summer-school/

 

No School
There will be no school from February 16 -18, due to the Carnaval holiday.

Professional Development Afternoon
All students will be dismissed at 12:20 p.m. on Friday, February 27, due to the teachers’ professional development afternoon. The school buses will leave PACA at 12:55 p.m. Students in Pre-K – 12th grade will eat lunch on campus before dismissal.

The after school sports practice schedule has been altered for two weeks. Varsity volleyball and futsal will practice first, and JV volleyball and futsal will practice second. JV Softball will have 1st practice.

Menu – February 9 - 13

Monday: stewed beef with carrots, rice, black beans and zucchini

Tuesday: grilled chicken breasts, rice, beans, broccoli

Wednesday: meatloaf, rice, beans, polenta

Thursday: chicken stroganoff, rice, beans, shoe string potatoes

Friday: roast beef, pasta with tomato sauce

Acampamento do 6º e 7º anos
Os alunos do 6º e 7º anos irão para o Acampamento Rio Selvagem em Juquitiba nos dias 05 e 06 de fevereiro. Os alunos sairão da PACA às 8h20 na quinta-feira, e retornarão até às 15h20 na sexta-feira.

Jantar à Luz de Velas (Candlelight Dinner)
Já estamos em fevereiro, e isso quer dizer que o tradicional Jantar à Luz de Velas, organizado pelos alunos do 11º ano, está chegando! Comprem seus ingressos na primeira semana de vendas por apenas R$ 40,00. Esperamos vê-los no dia 28 de fevereiro!

Ginásio Fechado
O ginásio estará fechado para todas as atividades de 25 de fevereiro a 02 de março, devido aos preparativos para o Jantar à Luz de Velas.

Uniformes Usados
Temos vários tamanhos de uniformes escolares em bom estado para doação na secretaria. Caso tenham interesse, por favor, entrem em contato com Denise Deal.

Notícias da Orientadora Educacional
Haverá uma mini-feira universitária aqui na PACA, focada em instituições canadenses, no dia 09 de março. A feira acontecerá no auditório, a partir das 9 horas, quando haverá uma apresentação curta sobre estudar e morar no Canadá para os alunos do 11º ano. Caso alunos de outras turmas do Ensino Médio queiram participar, eles deverão entrar em contato com a Mrs. Kuhnast para reservar uma vaga. Os pais de todos os alunos da PACA estão convidados.

A Feira Universitária Linden acontecerá no refeitório da PACA no dia 20 de março, das 8 às 9 horas. Cerca de vinte e cinco faculdades e universidades estadunidenses participarão. Os alunos do 7º ao 11º anos terão o privilégio de participar da feira e a oportunidade de conversar com os representantes das faculdades. Os pais de alunos de todos os níveis são bem-vindos.

Programa de Férias
A Escola de Negócios Berkeley-Haas da Universidade da Califórnia oferece um curso na Academia de Negócios para Jovens Berkeley. Os alunos terão duas semanas de aulas e atividades sociais. As aulas acontecerão no campus da UC Berkeley. O currículo foi desenvolvido para alunos do Ensino Fundamental II e Ensino Médio como uma introdução ao mundo dos negócios e empreendedorismo. Ênfase do currículo: Empreendedorismo, Liderança, Trabalho em Equipe, Pensamento Crítico, Estrutura Corporativa, Responsabilidade Social Empresarial, Contabilidade, Estratégias de Preços, Marketing, Finanças, Teoria dos Jogos, Oratória e Técnicas de Apresentação.

Não Haverá Aula
Não haverá aula de 16 a 18 de fevereiro, devido ao feriado de Carnaval.

Tarde de Capacitação Profissional
Os alunos serão dispensados às 12h20 na sexta-feira, dia 27 de fevereiro, devido à tarde de capacitação profissional dos professores. Os ônibus escolares sairão da PACA às 12h55. Os alunos da pré-escola ao 12º ano almoçarão na escola antes de serem liberados.

O horário dos treinos esportivos foi alterado por duas semanas. Os times de vôlei e futsal do varsity farão o primeiro treino, e os times do JV de vôlei e futsal farão o segundo. Os jogadores de JV softball treinarão no primeiro horário.
