Warriors Sports Calendar

Dear parents and student-athletes,
I am glad to announce the beginning of the São Paulo High School League (SPHSL) Season 2 games for our JV and Varsity Basketball and Soccer Teams.  The tournament will be a five-team double round-robin with playoffs for the Varsity level and a round-robin with playoffs for the JV level. To ensure the safety of everyone involved, we will be following strict health and safety protocols listed below:

SPHSL Health and Safety Protocols:
All the students selected for each game must: 

• Follow normal school health and safety protocols (eg. wearing a mask at all times). 
• Bring their own water bottle, and may not share it with others.
• Be asymptomatic and have a negative Covid-19 test result* 
  • Students must test 72 hours before game day or take a weekly Covid-19 test during the competition phase. The test may be an Antigen or PCR test.
  • Students who have tested positive for Covid-19 since December 19, 2021, may be exempt from the test and are eligible for all games.
     

* The requirement of testing will be in place for the month of February. This requirement will be reevaluated by SPHSL schools prior to the Carnaval break in order to determine if it will be removed or remain for the rest of the semester.

During the month of February, JV single-sport athletes will be required to test 72 hours before game day, and Varsity and JV athletes with three or more games will be required to test weekly. Currently, the school is in the works of providing a testing option. However, nothing has yet been confirmed. Students may also use other locations to test, in the case of the school not providing an option this will be a requirement. If a student has contracted Covid-19 after December 19, 2021, they may be exempt from the Covid test as long as they turn in dated evidence to Mr. Sousa before their first game.

A provision specific to Covid-19 has been added to São Paulo High School League's Constitution, which determines a limit to the number of players that can be officially selected for a match (15 for Basketball and 18 for Soccer). If the number of student-athletes on a team is greater than the limit determined by our Consitution coaches will select and notify the participating athletes 5 days prior to game day. 
Our coaches will be using the following criteria to select student-athletes for each game: 

• Skill level 
• Teamwork
• Effort
• Commitment
• Attendance/Punctuality

 
In our Athletics Program, we want all our student‐athletes to learn the value of being on a team and the contribution that each must make. However, this contribution is not limited to game time only but also includes being on the bench and participating constructively in all practices throughout the season for the good of the team. Therefore, there will be no room for discussion or complaints regarding playing time, we expect our students to learn and grow from all these experiences.
 
Last but not least, It has been decided by the SPHSL schools that it is to each school’s discretion whether or not spectators will be allowed on campus during the games, and if so what protocols will be in place. Given this change, we are glad to announce that spectators will be allowed on our campus during games as long as they follow our current Covid-19 protocols and keep a mask on at all times. Before each of our away games, we will notify our community of the home school’s protocols.

AASB Code of Conduct

AASB has created a Code of Conduct which participants and all student spectators are expected to abide by. Compliance with this Code of Conduct is also a requirement of all participants and student spectators from non member AASB schools who are invited to participate in an AASB event.
