Warrior Week

In celebration and support of our student athletes PACA is celebrating Warrior Week! All students are encouraged to dress up and join in the fun. Students are expected to adhere to dress code (please refer to pages 35-36 of the student handbook for dress code details). 

Friday Nov 5: PACA Spirit Day - Wear PACA colors and/or PACA shirts.

Monday Nov 8: Twin Day - Find a partner and wear identical outfits.

Tues Nov 9: Grandparents Day - Dress up like your grandparents or what you might look like when you are a grandparent! 

Wed Nov 10: Famous Person Day - Dress up as a famous person (real or fictional)! Students may not dress up as scary characters or have toy weapons as props.

Thursday Nov 11: Decades Day - Wear a vintage outfit from a past decade. 

Friday Nov 12: Class Color Day - Each Class should come to school wearing the same color. 

Escola Segura – Online Meeting with Parents

We are happy to announce PACA's partnership with the company Escola Segura. Escola Segura is a consulting firm focused on school health, serving private and public schools, as well as state and local governments, nationwide. We would like to invite you, parents, to learn a little about this partnership. The meetings will be via Zoom on November 4th:

PreK-5th grade Parents: 6:00 pm

6th - 12th grade Parents: 7:30 pm

An email will be sent in the next few days with the link and the invite. Join us!

Elementary Reading Contest “Buggy about Books”

Elementary students, it is with sadness that Reading Contest is coming to a close! We hope that you had a great month or learning, reading, and fun experiences. Remember to submit your last Reading Log on Seesaw to earn the last weekly prize. Ice cream treats for reading all 4 weeks will be distributed on November 5.

MAP Test Results:

Kindergarten through 8th Grade students took the MAP tests during the month of September. Your child’s results were sent last week. If you have any doubts, please contact [email protected] (kindergarten – 5th grade) or [email protected] (6th – 8th grade).

Library News

This semester, students and parents will be able to check out library books by putting books on hold on Destiny, the virtual library catalog. Books for students will be delivered to the classroom, but for parents books will be left at the front gate to be picked up after the library has communicated they are ready. Students can return books in the classroom and parents should return their library books at the front gate. Please see the bookmark attached for instructions on how to check out books from the library.

Athletics

Games will start next week!

On Saturday, November 6 PACA will play Graded in Soccer and Volleyball. Games will begin at 3 pm with Varsity Boys Soccer and Varsity Girls Volleyball, followed by Varsity Girls Soccer and Varsity Boys Volleyball at 4:30 pm.

Due to the São Paulo High School League COVID protocols, no spectators or visitors will be allowed on campus, this includes parents and family members. All athletes, coaches, officials, and school staff involved will undergo a Covid test up to 48 hours before the game.

Nov 15 – No classes due to Proclamação da República

Half Day Information: October 29

Due to the Teacher Professional Development afternoon, Preschool and Elementary students will be dismissed at 12:50pm and Secondary students at 12:55pm on October 29.

Class Schedule:

- Preschool students will follow their normal morning schedule.

- Elementary students will follow their normal morning schedule, with the addition of a special Reading Contest closing activity.

- Secondary students will follow Blocks 1-3 (White day).

Lunch Schedule:

- Pre-school – 12th grade students will eat lunch on campus before dismissal.

Dismissal Schedule:

- Pre-school: 12:45 - green gate

- Elementary: 12:50 - classrooms

- Secondary: 12:55

- The school buses will leave PACA at 1 p.m.

If you plan for your child to leave before dismissal time, please send an email to [email protected] with name, grade, and time that student will leave school. Please to go to the Front Desk to have your child picked-up and signed out.

Leaving campus policy

We would like to remind that, according to the Student Handbook (pg 19), students

are not allowed to leave campus at any time during the school day,

including lunch time. Students may not order or receive food from outside vendors.

Parents who bring lunch for their children must leave it in the school office.

Student ID Cards - Lunch

PACA is working on finishing the process with the school pictures to update our student ID cards for this school year.

Meanwhile, we kindly ask that all Middle and High School (6th – 12th grade) students that eat PACA’s hot lunch, take their old student ID cards to have lunch in the cafeteria. Please remind students to bring their name tags for lunch.

New students or those who cannot find their ID Cards should please contact Mrs. Glaucia Dawel ([email protected]) by Friday, Nov 5, to have their badges made.

Segunda-feira 8 de nov: Dia dos Gêmeos - Encontre um parceiro e use roupas idênticas.

Terça-feira 9 de nov: Dia dos Avós - Vista-se como seus avós ou como você pode se parecer quando você for avô ou avó!

Quarta-feira 10 de nov: Dia da Pessoa Famosa - Vista-se como uma pessoa famosa (real ou fictícia)! Os alunos não podem se vestir como personagens assustadores ou ter armas de brinquedo como adereços.

Sexta-feira, 12 de nov: Dia da Cor da Classe - Cada classe deve vir com a mesma cor para a escola.

Escola Segura – Reuniao On-line com os Pais

Concurso de Leitura do Elementary “Buggy about Books!

Alunos do Elementary, estamos tristes pois o Concurso de Leitura está chegando ao fim! Esperamos que você tenha tido um ótimo mês, experiências de aprendizado, leitura e diversão. Lembrem-se de enviar seu último “Log” de Leitura no Seesaw para ganhar o último prêmio semanal.

Prêmios em sorvetes, referentes as 4 semanas do concurso, serão distribuídos no dia 05 de novembro.

Neste semestre, os alunos e pais poderão pegar emprestados livros da biblioteca. A reserva dos livros deverá ser feita através do Destiny, catálogo virtual da biblioteca. Os livros para os alunos serão enviados para a sala de aula, mas para os pais os livros serão deixados na portaria para serem retirados após a biblioteca avisar que estão disponíveis. Os alunos poderão devolver os livros na sala de aula e os pais devem devolver seus livros da biblioteca na portaria. Os jogos começarão na próxima semana!

No sábado, 6 de novembro, a PACA jogará Futebol e Volley contra a Graded. Os jogos começarão às 15:00 com Varsity Boys Soccer e Varsity Girls Volleyball, seguido por Varsity Girls Soccer e Varsity Boys Volleyball às 16:30.

Devido aos protocolos COVID do São Paulo High School League, não será permitido público nos jogos, nem visitantes no campus, incluindo pais e membros da família. Todos os envolvidos como: atletas, treinadores, árbitros e funcionários serão submetidos a um teste COVID, até 48 horas antes do jogo.

No dia 29 de outubro, devido à tarde de Desenvolvimento Profissional dos Professores, os alunos da Pré-Escola e do Elementary serão dispensados às 12h50 e os alunos do Secondary às 12h55.

Horário das aulas:

- Alunos do Preschool manterão o horário matinal original.

- Alunos do Elementary participarão de atividades do Concurso de Leitura durante toda a manhã.

- Alunos do Secondary terão os Blocos 1-3 (Dia Branco).

Horário do Almoço:

- Alunos da Pre-School - 12th grade almoçarão no campus antes de irem para casa.

Horário de saída:

- Pre-School: 12:45 - portão verde.

- Elementary: 12:50 - salas de aula.

- Secondary: 12:55

- Os ônibus escolares sairão da PACA às 13:00 horas.

Se você planeja que seu filho saia antes do horário de saída nesse dia, envie um e-mail para [email protected] com nome, série e horário. Por favor, dirija-se à Recepção para pegar o aluno e assinar a saída.

Regra de saída do campus

Lembramos a todos que, segundo o Student Handbook (pag 19), os alunos não estão autorizados a deixar o campus em qualquer momento durante o dia escolar, inclusive na hora do almoço. Os alunos não poderão pedir ou receber alimentos de fornecedores externos. Os pais que trouxerem almoço para seus filhos devem deixá-lo na

secretaria da escola.

A PACA está finalizando o processo para atualização dos crachás dos alunos deste ano com as novas fotos.

Entretanto, pedimos, por gentileza, que todos os alunos do Middle e High School (6th – 12th grade), que almoçam na escola, levem seus crachás antigos para almoçarem na cafeteria.

Por gentileza, lembrem os alunos de trazerem seus crachás.

Library Book Sale

The library had a book sale this week, but if you didn't have a chance to stop by to buy used and new books in English and Portuguese, please contact the library: [email protected]. The books will be on sale until the end of the school day on Tuesday, October 26th. 

Book Presentation & Author Visit

The Elementary Reading Contest began Friday, October 1! Among other activities, the Elementary students participated in a presentation based on the book “O Diário de um Dia da Mosca Sofia", by Paulo Debs. On October 14, we had the privilege of having Mr. Paulo Debs meet the students to talk about his book and interact with him via zoom. His book will be on sale until October 22nd and parents can request a copy or more by sending an email to the PACA Library: [email protected]. The cost of the book is R$30,00 (shipping included). Books will be autographed by the author and delivered to your child in the classroom by the end of October.

We are glad to announce the return of the São Paulo High School League (SPHSL) for our Varsity Volleyball and Soccer Teams. This league will be shorter than we are used to, but extremely significant and meaningful, nonetheless. It will be a five-team round-robin format, and games will be played on Saturdays. All athletes and everyone involved will be required to take a COVID test and no spectators will be allowed.

PACA will be playing on the following days:

November 6 vs Graded (Home)

November 20 vs Chapel (Home)

December 4 vs St. Paul’s (Away)

December 11 vs EAC (Away)

Alunos do Elementary, estamos chegando a última semana do concurso de leitura! Lembrem-se de enviar o “Reading Log” no Seesaw a cada semana. Verifiquem, por gentileza, o Calendário do Concurso de Leitura para os dias que as crianças usarão fantasias, eventos divertidos e sorvetes!

Apresentação de Livro e Bate-papo com o Autor

O Concurso de Leitura do Elementary começou na sexta-feira, dia 1 de outubro! Entre outras atividades, os alunos do Elementary participaram de uma apresentação baseada no livro "O Diário de um Dia da Mosca Sofia", do autor Paulo Debs. No dia 14 de outubro, também tiveram a oportunidade de receber o Sr. Paulo Debs para uma live com os alunos, na qual tiveram a chance de conversar sobre o livro e interagir com o autor. O livro estará à venda até o dia 22 de outubro e os pais podem encomendar um ou mais exemplares através do email da biblioteca: [email protected]. Cada exemplar custa R$30,00 (frete incluso). Os livros adquiridos serão autografados e entregues para o seu filho(a) na sala de aula até o final de outubro.

Elementary Reading Contest “Buggy about Books”

Elementary students, let’s keep reading, learning and bugs, and earning prizes! Remember to submit your Reading Log on Seesaw each week! Please see the Reading Contest Calendar for dress up days and other fun reading events!

Book sale

The library will be selling new and used books in English and Portuguese during the week of October 18-22. An email will be sent for parents to sign up before they visit the library. Cash and debit cards will be accepted.

Book Presentation & Author Visit

The Elementary Reading Contest began Friday, October 1! Among other activities, the Elementary students will participate in a presentation based on the book "O Diário de um Dia da Mosca Sofia", by Paulo Debs. On October 14, we will also have the privilege of having Mr. Paulo Debs meet the students to talk about his book and give them a chance to interact with him via zoom. His book will be on sale until October 22nd and parents can request a copy or more by sending an email to the PACA Library: [email protected]. The cost of the book is R$30,00 (shipping included). Books will be autographed by the author and delivered to your child in the classroom by the end of October.

SPHSL

We are glad to announce the return of the São Paulo High School League (SPHSL) for our Varsity Volleyball and Soccer Teams. This league will be shorter than we are used to, but extremely significant and meaningful nonetheless. It will be a five-team round-robin format, and games will be played on Saturdays. All athletes and everyone involved will be required to take a COVID test and no spectators will be allowed.

PACA will be playing on the following days:

November 6 vs Graded (Home)

November 20 vs Chapel (Home)

December 4 vs St. Paul’s (Away)

December 11 vs EAC (Away)

Important Dates

Oct 15 - No classes due to Teacher’s day.

Oct 29 – Half day of school: Teachers Professional Development Afternoon

Nov 1 and 2 – No classes due to Finados Holiday

PSAT Coming up!

On Tuesday October 26 all PACA students in grades 9-11 will take the PSAT exam at PACA during the school day. This is a significant test and it is important that students come to school well rested that day. 

The week preceding the exam students will fill out registration forms during the activity block at the end of the day (9th grade on October 18, 10th grade on October 21, and 11th grade on October 22). This time will also be used to familiarize students with the test format so that they are prepared for the exam on the 26th. 

School Pictures

Mrs. Hwang will take our school pictures (individual and class) during the week of October 18 - 21. Students may wear clothing of their own choice, that fits within the PACA dress code.

This year, we have organized the photos by day and by class. Please check which day your child's class will be taking the pictures:

Mon 10/18: 1st, 2nd, and 6th, and 7th grades.

Tues 10/19: PreK 1 and 2, Kindergarten.

Wed 10/20: 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grades.

Thurs 10/21: 3rd, 4th, and 5th.

Frid 10/22: 12th grade.

Changes in school Secretariat

Due to changes in the school secretariat, we are hiring for the front desk position. We thank Mrs. Alice Sena who has performed this function with excellence and will continue to serve PACA as secretary of the Brazilian Department.

The requirements for the position are:

Education: Completed High School.

Fluency in English and Portuguese is a must

Experience with customer service (in person and over the phone)

Good command of the Office Package

Communication skills (written and verbal)

Dynamism, initiative and flexibility

Entre outras atividades, os alunos do Elementary participarão de uma apresentação baseada no livro "O Diário de um Dia da Mosca Sofia", do autor Paulo Debs. No dia 14 de outubro, também teremos a oportunidade de receber o Sr. Paulo Debs para uma live com os alunos, na qual terão a chance de conversar sobre o livro e interagir com o autor. O livro estará à venda até o dia 22 de outubro e os pais podem encomendar um ou mais exemplares através do email da biblioteca: [email protected]. Cada exemplar custa R$30,00 (frete incluso). No dia 26 de outubro, terça-feira, todos os alunos da PACA do 9th ao 11th grade farão o teste PSAT na escola PACA durante o dia de aula. Este é um teste relevante e é importante que os alunos estejam bem descansados nesse dia.

Na semana que antecede o teste, os alunos preencherão os formulários de inscrição durante o bloco de atividades no final do dia (9th grade no dia 18 de outubro, 10th grade no dia 21 de outubro, e 11th grade no dia 22 de outubro). Este tempo também será usado para familiarizar os alunos com o formato do teste, de modo que eles estejam preparados para o exame no dia 26.

Neste semestre, os alunos e pais poderão emprestar livros da biblioteca reservando os livros através do Destiny, catálogo virtual da biblioteca. Os livros para os alunos serão distribuídos na sala de aula, mas para os pais os livros serão deixados na portaria para serem retirados após a biblioteca avisar que estão disponíveis. Os alunos poderão devolver os livros na sala de aula e os pais devem devolver seus livros da biblioteca na portaria. Favor utilizem o marca-páginas abaixo com as instruções de como emprestar livros da biblioteca.

Antes de visitarem a biblioteca para comprar livros para você e sua família, pedimos que reservem o melhor dia e horário para vocês.
