Knowledge Bowl Tournament

PACA’s Knowledge Bowl team, made up by Mattheus Ramos, Jonathan Bizerra, Bruno Kim, Sophia Santos and  David Lee will compete at Chapel  on February 22 and 23.
 


Professional Development Day

There will be no school on Monday, February 26, due to the teacher professional development day.
 

Student Intention Form for 2018/19

Student intention forms for the 2017-18 school year were sent home with students last week. Parents, please fill out the form and return it to the school office by Thursday, March 1. If you need another copy of the form, please contact Annelise Liu in the main office.
 


Mid-Term Reports

Mid-term reports will go home on February 27. Parent signed mid-term slips are due on March 6.
 
 
 
 

AP Exams

Any high school student that wishes to take an AP exam for a class that is not offered at PACA, must contact Mrs. Zuercher, and inform her of the exam you would like to take by Thursday, March 1.  Exams will be ordered during the month of March, and students will not be able to request exams after the ordering deadline.
 

International Festival

This year’s International Festival will take place on Saturday, March 17. Mark your calendars!

The Science Fair, Art Show, and Library Sale are coming up!   Reserve the evening of Friday, May 4, on your calendars.
 
 

Sports
Sports Calendar Update

On Friday, February 23, the JV & Varsity girls’ volleyball and boys’ futsal teams will play at home against Chapel. The JV boys and Varsity girls will play first, at 4:30pm.
 
On Tuesday, February 27, the JV & Varsity Boys’ Softball teams will play at home against Chapel. The games will start at 3pm.
 
On Wednesday, February 28, the Varsity Girls’ futsal and Boys’ volleyball teams will play at Chapel. The games will be simultaneous, starting at 5pm.
 
Fund Raising
If you plan to sell goods on campus to raise funds or are in need of financial assistance for the tournament, please fill out the Fund Raising and Financial Aid forms that are on the Sports Group page.
 
If you need Financial Aid for the sports tournament, on March 10, the Athletic Department will sell lunch during the JV Girls’ volleyball festival. Please plan to come and help with this event.

Swimming Lessons: Mrs. Eliana Castanho will teach after school classes, from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m., for those who would like to improve their performance in the swimming pool. For more information, contact Mrs. Castanho via e-mail: eliana.castanho@paca.com.br. A class already meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Depending on the number of students interested, another class can be created.
 
Donating Blood: If you are looking for a way to help Miss Kierstead, as she continues her breast cancer treatment, consider donating blood in her name. Não haverá aula na segunda-feira, dia 26 de fevereiro, devido ao dia de capacitação profissional dos professores.
 

Formulário de Intenção para 2018/19

Pais, por favor, preencham o formulário de intenção para o próximo ano letivo, que foi enviado para casa na semana passada, e devolvam para a secretaria até quinta-feira, dia 1º de março. Caso precisem de outra cópia do formulário, por favor, entrem em contato com Annelise Liu na secretaria.
 

Boletins Mensais

Os boletins mensais serão enviados para casa no dia 27 de fevereiro. Os canhotos assinados pelos pais deverão ser entregues até o dia 06 de março.
 
 

Exames AP

Os alunos do Ensino Médio que queiram fazer um exame AP (Advanced Placement) de uma matéria não-oferecida na grade curricular da PACA deverão entrar em contato com a Mrs. Zuercher até quinta-feira, dia 1º de março, para informá-la qual é o exame a ser encomendado. Após essa data, não serão aceitas novas solicitações.

Calendário Esportivo

Na sexta-feira, dia 23 de fevereiro, os times de vôlei feminino e futsal masculino do JV e varsity jogarão em casa contra a Chapel. Os meninos do JV e as meninas do varsity jogarão primeiro, às 16h30.
 
Na terça-feira, dia 27 de fevereiro, os times de softball masculino do JV e do varsity jogarão em casa contra a Chapel. Os jogos começarão às 15 horas.
 
Na quarta-feira, dia 28 de fevereiro, os times feminino de futsal e masculino de vôlei do varsity jogarão na Chapel. Os jogos serão simultâneos, e começarão às 17 horas.
 
Arrecadação de Fundos
Caso queiram vender gostosuras durante o período letivo para levantar fundos para os torneios ou precisem de ajuda financeira, por favor, preecham os formulários de Arrecadação de Fundos e Assistência Financeira que estão na página dos Grupos Esportivos.
 
Caso precisem de ajuda finaceira para os torneios esportivos, o Departamento Esportivo venderá almoços durante o festival de vôlei feminino do JV no dia 10 de março. Por favor, planejem-se para vir ajudar com esse evento.

News from the Guidance Office

Cornell's Summer College is one of the United States’ longest running and most highly regarded precollege academic programs. It brings more than 1,500 academically talented high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors from around the world to the Cornell campus in Ithaca, New York, each summer for three- and six-week programs. Candlelight Dinner

On Saturday, February 17, the junior class will host the annual Candlelight Dinner at 7 p.m. Candlelight is an elegant evening of dining and entertainment for middle school and high school students, parents, and teachers. A limited number of tickets went on sale on January 31 for R$45. The price will go up to R$50 on the week of the event.

SPHSL Update:

On February 2, our Varsity Girls’ volleyball and Boys’ futsal team played at Graded.
 
On February 7, our Varsity Girls’ volleyball and Boys’ futsal teams played at home against EAC.
 
The results for the games were:

Varsity Boys’ Futsal :  PACA 3 vs 5 Graded
Varsity Girls’ Volleyball: PACA 0 vs 3 Graded

Varsity Boys’ Futsal: PACA 5 vs 10 EAC
Varsity Girls’ Volleyball: PACA 0 vs 3 EAC

Calling All Singers! Come join us in preparing to sing the Hallelujah Chorus for the Easter Assembly on Thursday, March 29, at 8:20 AM. Rehearsals will be Thursday evenings from 7:45-9:00 PM starting February 1. If that time does not work for you and you want to join us, additional rehearsals are being considered for either Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays after school from 3:30-4:30. Notícias da Orientadora Educacional

O programa de verão da Universidade Cornell (Cornell Summer College) é um dos programas acadêmicos pré-universitários mais antigos e de maior prestígio dos Estados Unidos. Mais de 1,500 alunos do 1º ao 3º do Ensino Médio, do mundo, todo, participam destes programas no campus  que fica em Ithaca, Nova York. Há programas de estudos de três e seis semana. Jantar à Luz de Velas

O tradicional Jantar à Luz de Velas, organizado pelos alunos do 11º ano, acontecerá no sábado, 17 de fevereiro, às 19 horas. Este jantar é um evento elegante e agradável para alunos do 6º ao 12º anos, pais e professores. Um número limitado de ingressos está a venda por R$ 45 desde 31 de janeiro. O preço subirá para R$ 50 na semana do evento.

Na terça-feira, dia 20 de fevereiro, os times de futsal  feminino do JV e do varsity e os meninos do vôlei do varsity jogarão na EAC. As meninas do JV e os meninos do varsity jogarão primeiro, às 16 horas.
 
Na sexta-feira, dia 23 de fevereiro, os times de vôlei feminino e futsal masculino do JV e varsity jogarão em casa contra a Chapel. Os meninos do JV e as meninas do varsity jogarão primeiro, às 16h30.
 
Na terça-feira, dia 27 de fevereiro, os times de softball masculino do JV e do varsity jogarão em casa contra a Chapel. Os jogos começarão às 15 horas.
 
Na quarta-feira, dia 28 de fevereiro, os times feminino de futsal e masculino de vôlei do varsity jogarão na Chapel. Os jogos serão simultâneos, e começarão às 17 horas.
 

Arrecadação de Fundos

Caso queiram vender gostosuras durante o período letivo para levantar fundos para os torneios ou precisem de ajuda financeira, por favor, preecham os formulários de Arrecadação de Fundos e Assistência Financeira que estão na página dos Grupos Esportivos.
 
Caso precisem de ajuda finaceira para os torneios esportivos, o Departamento Esportivo venderá almoços durante o festival de vôlei feminino do JV no dia 10 de março. Por favor, planejem-se para ajudar com esse evento.

Os ensaios acontecerão às quintas-feiras, das 19h45 às 21 horas, a partir de 1º de fevereiro. Caso queiram se apresentar conosco, mas não possam ensaiar nesse horário, estamos considerando ensaios extras às terças, quartas, quintas ou sextas, das 15h30 às 16h30. Swimming in P.E. Class

Parents, swimming classes for students enrolled in PE have begun. All students need to bring their complete P.E. uniform (P.E. T-shirt, shorts, socks and tennis shoes) as well as swimming gear (P.E. swim shorts or bathing suit, towel, flip-flops and sunscreen, goggles if they desire, and a swim cap for those who have longer hair). Please do not forget to send a plastic bag for your child to put his/her wet items to be taken home. The plan is for this swimming unit is to end on March 9. PACA swimming suits and caps may be purchased in the main office with Annelise Liu.

No School

There will be no school from February 12 - 14 due to the Carnaval holiday.
 

Candlelight Dinner

On Saturday, February 17, the junior class will host the annual Candlelight Dinner at 7 p.m. Candlelight is an elegant evening of dining and entertainment for middle school and high school students, parents, and teachers. A limited number of tickets went on sale on January 31 for R$45. The price will go up to R$50 on the week of the event. 
 

AP Exams

Any high school student that wishes to take an AP exam for a class that is not offered at PACA, must contact Mrs. Zuercher, and inform her of the exam you would like to take by March 1.  Exams will be ordered during the month of March, and students will not be able to request exams after the ordering deadline.


Sports
2018 Sports Seasons

This semester, the Athletic Department will offer these sports: Boys’ and Girls’ Futsal (JV & Varsity), Boys’ Volleyball (Varsity), Girls’ Volleyball (JV & Varsity), Boys’ Softball (JV & Varsity).
 
The practice schedule is different from last semester’s, so please check it on the PlusPortal Sports Groups.
 


Sports Calendar

Our JV & Varsity girls’ volleyball and boys’ futsal teams will have their first games of the season this Friday, February 2, at Graded. The Varsity boys and JV girls will play first, starting at 4:30pm.
 
Our Varsity girls’ volleyball and boys’ futsal teams will have their first home games of the season on Wednesday, February 7, against EAC. The Varsity girls will play first, starting at 6pm.
 
Our Varsity boys’ softball and JV girls’ futsal  teams will have their first games of the season on Tuesday, February 20, at EAC. The games will be simultaneous, starting at 4pm.
 


Fund Raising

Student athletes must fill out Fund Raising forms if they want to sell goods during school hours to raise funds for the tournament. They need approval from the administration before sales begin. You will find this form on the PlusPortal sports group.

Menu – February 5 - 9

 
Monday: cabbage salad, beef with Madeira sauce, rice, black beans, crunchy farofa, fruit.
Tuesday: eggs, breaded fish, rice, beans, cream corn, coconut and pumpkin compote. 
Wednesday: cucumbers with yoghurt mint sauce, meatloaf, rice, beans, eggplant, zucchini and peppers baked in tomato sauce, fruit.
Thursday: carrots, green beans and potatoes, chicken fricassee, rice, beans, broccoli, jell-O.
Friday: peas, beef and vegetable yakisoba, fruit.
 



Community Announcements

Swimming Lessons: Mrs. Eliana Castanho will teach after school classes, from 3:30 to 4:20 p.m., for those who would like to improve their performance in the swimming pool. For more information, contact Mrs. Castanho via e-mail: eliana.castanho@paca.com.br. A class already meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Depending on the number of students interested, another class can be created.
 
Calling All Singers! Come join us in preparing to sing the Hallelujah Chorus for the Easter Assembly on Thursday, March 29, at 8:20 AM. Rehearsals will be Thursday evenings from 7:45-9:00 PM starting February 1. If that time does not work for you and you want to join us, additional rehearsals are being considered for either Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays after school from 3:30-4:30. Please get in contact with Debbie Dunn (debbie.dunn@paca.com.br) if you are interested in this option.

Natação nas Aulas de Educação Física

Pais, as aulas de natação começaram. Nos dias de aula de Educação Física, os alunos deverão trazer o uniforme completo (shorts e camiseta de Educação Física, meias e tênis) e também o uniforme de natação (shorts ou maiô da PACA, toalha, chinelos, filtro solar, óculos de natação para quem desejar e touca para quem tem cabelo comprido). Por favor, não esqueçam de enviar um saco plástico para acondicionar as peças molhadas. O plano é nadar até 09 de março. Uniformes de natação da PACA poderão ser comprados com Annelise Liu na secretaria.

Não Haverá Aula

Não haverá aula de 12 a 14 de fevereiro, devido ao feriado de Carnaval.
 

Jantar à Luz de Velas

O tradicional Jantar à Luz de Velas, organizado pelos alunos do 11º ano, acontecerá no sábado, 17 de fevereiro, às 19 horas. Este jantar é um evento elegante e agradável para alunos do 6º ao 12º anos, pais e professores. Um número limitado de ingressos está a venda por R$ 45 desde 31 de janeiro. O preço subirá para R$ 50 na semana do evento. 
 

Exames AP

Os alunos do Ensino Médio que queiram fazer um exame AP (Advanced Placement) de uma matéria não-oferecida na grade curricular da PACA deverão entrar em contato com a Mrs. Zuercher até o dia 1º de março para informá-la qual é o exame a ser encomendado. Os exames serão encomendados em março, e os alunos não poderão solicitar novos exames após a data limite.

Esportes
Temporada Esportiva 2018

O Departamento Esportivo oferecerá os seguintes esportes esse semestre: Futsal Masculino e Feminino (JV e Varsity), Vôlei Masculino (Varsity), Vôlei Feminino (JV e Varsity), Softball Masculino (JV & Varsity).
 
O horário dos treinos é diferente do horário do semestre passado. Por favor, confiram o novo horário nos Grupos Esportivos do PlusPortal.
 

Calendário Esportivo

Os times de vôlei feminino e futsal masculino do JV e Varsity farão os primeiros jogos da temporada na sexta-feira, dia 02 de fevereiro, na Graded. Os meninos do varsity e as meninas do JV jogarão primeiro, às 16h30. 
 
Os times de vôlei feminino e futsal masculino do Varsity farão os primeiros jogos da temporada em casa na quarta-feira, dia 07 de fevereiro, contra a EAC. As meninas do varsity jogarão primeiro, às 18 horas.  
 
O time de softball masculino do varsity e  o time de futsal  feminino do JV farão os primeiros jogos da temporada na terça-feira, dia 20 de fevereiro, na EAC. Os jogos acontecerão simultaneamente às 16 horas.  
 

Arrecadação de Fundos

Os atletas deverão preencher os formulários para arrecadação de fundos caso queiram vender gostosuras durante o período letivo para levantar fundos para os torneios. É necessário obter autorização da diretoria antes de começar as vendas. O formulário está disponível nos Grupos Esportivos do PlusPortal.
