News from the Elementary Principal
Thanks for a great reading contest! We ate yummy ice cream cake on Tuesday afternoon.

Continue to encourage your student to keep reading (even though the reading contest is over).

Read, read and read some more!

Interesting information from Scholastic International:

What happens when students increase their independent reading time from 5 to 21 minutes a day?

· They read 1,550,000 more words per year.
· Their proficiency improves from the 50% to the 90% percentile.
· Higher proficiency rates can raise performance across all subjects.

News from the Vestibular
On October 21, Alan Moraes, founder of the Rede de Economia Criativa (REC), spoke to juniors and seniors about the profile of the new professional and emphasized the importance of a creative mind. The students had the chance to discuss and reflect about different ways of standing out as students and future professionals in the workplace.

News from the Music Teacher
All Elementary Parents: The Christmas musical is fast approaching! To help your child learn all the songs and lyrics, please go to the Edline Music page for audio links to the songs and the lyrics.

No School
There will be no school on Monday, November 2, due to the Finados holiday.

News from the Guidance Office
The following college visit will take place next week. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

· November 4 - American College of Dublin, at 11:30 a.m., in the computer lab.

Mid-Term Reports
Mid-term reports will be sent home on Wednesday, November 4.

Sports

The Little 8 8 Basketball Tournament will end on Saturday, October 31. Please pray for the athletes that are representing PACA at this event.

The Big 8 tournament is coming up. Please hand in all forms to Mrs. Buchanan, if you have not done so yet.

Gym Closed
Due to the upcoming high school drama presentation, the gym will be closed for all activities from November 16 – December 7.

Recebemos no dia 21 de outubro, o palestrante Alan Moraes, fundador da Rede de Economia Criativa (REC), que discursou sobre o perfil do novo profissional e ressaltou a importância de uma mente criadora. Os alunos do 11° e 12° tiveram a oportunidade de dialogar e refletir sobre as diferentes possibilidades de se destacar tanto como alunos quanto como futuros profissionais.

WALKATHON 2015 - OCTOBER 23 / 23 DE OUTUBRO

Please send your child's pledge form back to the school tomorrow, so we can write the number of laps on it. We will send it back to you the following week.

Walkathon
Parents and students, tie up your shoes and stretch your leg muscles. The Walkathon 2015 will take place this Friday, October 23! This year, we will raise money for the Jardim das Oliveiras School in Carapicuíba.
News from the VestibularThe Brazilian National High School Exam (Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio – ENEM) will be offered on October 24 and 25. To find out where the tests will be administered, go to the website: http://enem.inep.gov.br/participante/.

News from the Guidance Office

No School
There will be no school on Monday, November 2, due to the Finados holiday.

Sports
SPHSL Update:
Our varsity soccer girls remain undefeated and have guaranteed their spot in the league finals. The game will be at PACA on November 10. Mark the date on your calendars! This is our girls’ first final in ten years!

Our varsity soccer boys lost their game on Tuesday (2 x 1), and are still fighting for a spot in the semi-finals.

Our varsity basketball girls beat EAC last Friday. They have a shot at securing their spot in the league finals at St. Paul’s tonight. Our basketball boys also won at EAC, which gives them a shot at the semi-finals (depending on how our next two games go).

Sports calendar:
We will have varsity basketball games at St. Paul’s tonight, at 5 p.m. The girls will play first. Come cheer the teams on to another victory.

We will have home varsity soccer games against St. Paul’s at PACA, on Saturday, October 24, starting with the girls at 2 p.m. Support our teams at their last games of the regular season.

The Little 8 Soccer will start this Sunday and end on Wednesday, October 28. The Little 8 Basketball Tournament will begin on Wednesday, and end on Saturday, October 31. Please keep us in your prayer, so that we may be salt and light to those around us. Also pray that we will be protected from injuries and grow in unity as the body of Christ.

The Big 8 tournament is also coming up. Please hand in all forms, if you have not done so yet. Please pray for this upcoming tournament as well.

Notícias sobre a SPHSL:
As meninas do futebol do varsity se mantêm invictas e garantiram sua vaga na final da liga. O jogo será na PACA no dia 10 de novembro. Marquem a data em suas agendas. Essa é a primeira final das meninas em dez anos!

O time masculino de futebol do varsity perderam de 2 a 1 na terça passada, e ainda brigam por uma vaga na semifinal.

As meninas do basquete do varsity ganharam da EAC na sexta passada. Elas têm a chance de garantir uma vaga nas finais hoje à noite na St. Paul’s. Os rapazes também ganharam na EAC, e têm chance de chegar as semifinais (dependendo dos resultados dos próximos dois jogos).

Calendário:
Os times de basquete do varsity jogarão na St. Paul’s hoje às 17 horas. As meninas farão a primeira partida. Venham torcer pelos times!

Haverá jogos de futebol do varsity contra a St. Paul’s aqui na PACA no sábado, dia 24 de outubro, às 14 horas. As meninas jogarão primeiro. Torçam pelos nossos times em seu último jogo da temporada regular.

O torneio Little 8 de futebol começará nesse domingo, e terminará na quarta-feira, dia 28 de outubro. O torneio Little 8 de basquete começará na quarta, e terminará no sábado, dia 31 de outubro. Por favor, orem para que sejamos sal e luz para as outras escolas durante o torneio. Intercedam também para que ninguém se machuque e para que possamos crescer em unidade como corpo de Cristo.

Teacher’s Day
We celebrated Teacher’s Day at PACA this week. Each day, the school prepared something special to thank those who work tirelessly with our students every day.

Outreach Day
This semester’s high school Outreach Day will take place on Saturday, October 17, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students will obtain community service hours by serving voluntarily at these ministries: Lar Efrata, GVN, Lar Tia Edna, 242 Project and a basketball team in Parelheiros. Parents, please remember to sign the permission slips and send lunch for your child. Depending on where the students are serving, they will need to take safety equipment.

Spiritual Emphasis Week
The high school students’ spiritual emphasis week will happen from October 19 – 23.

Walkathon
Parents and students, tie up your shoes and stretch your leg muscles. The Walkathon 2015 will take place on October 23! News from the Guidance Office

Sports
We will have JV girls and varsity basketball games at EAC tomorrow, October 16. The JV game will start at 4 p.m. The varsity game will begin at 5 p.m. The JV bus will return to PACA around 8:30 p.m., and the varsity bus will arrive approximately at 10 p.m. We will stop at McDonald’s on the way home so please send your child prepared. On the way back the bus will make the usual stops at Jóquei Clube, Baby Beef and SP Market. Please contact your child to let them know where to get off and to get the estimated times of arrival.

We will have home varsity soccer games against Graded, on Tuesday, October 20, starting with the boys at 2:45 p.m.

We will have home JV soccer games against Graded, on Wednesday, October 21, starting with the girls at 3 p.m.

We will have varsity basketball games at St. Paul´s, on Thursday, October 22, at 5 p.m. The girls will play first.

We will have home varsity soccer games against St. Paul’s at PACA, on Saturday, October 24, starting with the girls at 2pm.

Little 8 Tournament is coming up! Soccer teams will travel on Sunday, October 25, and return on Wednesday, October 28. The basketball teams will leave on Wednesday, October 28, and return on Saturday, October 31. Please hand in all forms related to the tournament to Mrs. Buchanan ASAP. Also please keep our teams in prayer before and during this wonderful opportunity.

Dia do Professor
Nessa semana, celebramos o dia do professor aqui na PACA. A escola preparou algo, a cada dia, em agradecimento a este que, dia a dia, trabalha incansavelmente com os nossos alunos.

Dia de Ação Comunitária
Nesse semestre, o dia de ação comunitária dos alunos do high school será no sábado, dia 17 de outubro, das 8 às 15 horas. Os alunos acumularão horas de serviço comunitária ao servir de forma voluntária no Lar Efrata, ministério GVN, Lar Tia Edna, Projeto 242 e um time de basquete em Parelheiros. Pais, não se esqueçam de assinar a autorização e enviem lanche para os seus filhos. É necessário levar materiais de segurança, dependendo do local onde o aluno for servir.

Semana de Ênfase Espiritual
A semana de ênfase espiritual dos alunos do Ensino Médio acontecerá de 19 a 23 de outubro.

O jogo do varsity começará às 17 horas, e o ônibus dos times do varsity chegará na PACA por volta das 22 horas. Haverá uma parada no McDonald’s na volta para casa. Por favor, mande o seu filho com dinheiro. Os pontos de parada no retorno são os mesmos: Jóquei Clube, Baby Beef e SP Market. Por favor, combine o ponto de encontro com o seu filho e entre em contato com ele para acertar o horário de chegada.

News from the Elementary Principal
Keep reading! Parents, remind your student to circle the days they read and then sign their reading log sheet for them. Keep blasting off into reading (and learning)!

No School
Due to the upcoming national holiday and teachers’ day, there will be no school on October 9 and 12.

News from the Guidance Office
The following college visits will take place in the next weeks. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.

· October 26 – Gordon College, at 11:30 a.m., in the computer lab.

· November 4 - American College of Dublin, at 11:30 a.m., in the computer lab.

All high school students will take standardized tests on Wednesday, October 14, in the morning. Students in 9th – 11th grade will take the PSAT. The seniors will take the practice ENEM or SAT prep.

Sports
Our home varsity soccer games against EAC were rescheduled for Wednesday, October 14, at 2:45 p.m. The boys will play first.

We will have home varsity soccer games against Graded on Tuesday, October 20, starting at 2:45 p.m. with the boys.

We will have home JV Soccer games against Graded on Wednesday, October 21, starting at 3 p.m. with the girls.

The varsity basketball games at St. Paul’s were rescheduled for Thursday, October 22, at 5 p.m. The girls will play first.

The Little 8 Tournament is coming up. Parents, please make sure you fill out your child’s forms and hand everything in to Mrs. Buchanan by Tuesday, October 13.

If you need Financial Aid and have not filled out a form yet, please do so ASAP. They are available on the Junior Varsity and Varsity Sports Edline pages.

SPHSL Update:
Our varsity basketball teams played against Graded on Thursday, October 1. The girls’ winning streak continues (49 x 24). The boys fought hard and gained their first victory of the season with a final score of 54 x 51.

Our varsity soccer teams played away at EAC on Tuesday, October 6. The girls won (2x0), and are still first in the league. The boys also won (5 x 0).

Thank you to all of you that support our teams at the games and through prayer.

Representantes das seguintes universidades visitarão a PACA nas próximas semanas. Os pais estão convidados e são incentivados a participar.

· 26 de outubro – Gordon College, às 11h30, no laboratório de computação.

· 04 de novembro - American College of Dublin, às 11h30, no laboratório de computação.

Todos os alunos do high school farão provas na quarta-feira, dia 14 de outubro, pela manhã. Os alunos do 9º ao 11º ano farão o PSAT. Os alunos do 12º ano farão o simulado do ENEM ou a preparação para o SAT.

Esportes
Os jogos de futebol do varstiy contra a EAC foram remarcados para quarta-feira, dia 14 de outubro, às 14h45, aqui na PACA. Os meninos jogarão primeiro.

Os times de futebol do varsity receberão a Graded na terça-feira, dia 20 de outubro. O jogo dos meninos começará às 14h45.

Receberemos os times de futebol do JV da Graded na quarta-feira, dia 21 de outubro, a partir das 15 horas. As meninas jogarão primeiro.

Os jogos de basquete na St. Paul’s foram reagendados para quinta-feira, dia 22 de outubro, às 17 horas. As meninas farão a primeira partida.

O torneio Little 8 está chegando. Pais, por favor, preencham os formulários dos seus filhos e entreguem tudo para a Mrs. Buchanan até terça-feira, dia 13 de outubro.

Caso precisem de ajuda financeira para os torneios, por favor, preencham os formulários de solicitação de ajuda o quanto antes. Os formulários estão disponíveis nas páginas do Junior Varsity e do Varsity no Edline.

Resultados da SPSHL:
Os times de basquete do varsity jogaram contra a Graded na quinta-feira, dia 1º de outubro. As meninas seguem vitoriosas (49 x 24). Os meninos jogaram duro e ganharam pela primeira vez na temporada (resultado final 54 x 51).

Os times de futebol do varsity jogaram em Campinas na terça-feira, dia 06 de outubro. As meninas ganharam (2 x 0), e continuam em primeiro lugar na liga. Os meninos também ganharam de 5 x 0.

Updating Student Information
Parents, if you have not filled out your children’s electronic student information and medical forms, you will be asked to fill them out after meeting with your child’s teachers on October 7 (PTS conferences day). Please keep in mind that due to safety concerns, students who do not have these forms on file will not be able to practice with the sports teams, play in games or participate in field trips. Thank you for your cooperation.

Teacher Professional Development Day
Due to the teacher professional development day, there will be no school tomorrow.

Campus Closed
The SAT will be administered at PACA this Saturday, October 03. Campus will be closed for all other activities that day.

PTS conferences
Parent, Teacher, Student Conferences will take place next Wednesday, October 7. Parents, if you have not set up times to meet with your child’s teachers, please call the school office as soon as possible. Attendance is required for all Pre-K1 – 12th grade parents and for students in 2nd – 12th grades. After the conferences, we ask that all parents report to the computer lab, located in our high school wing, to take an important survey, which is part of PACA’s accreditation requirements.

News from the Guidance Office

· October 26 – Gordon College, at 11:30 a.m., in the computer lab.

Last Friday’s basketball games against St. Paul´s were cancelled and have not been rescheduled yet. Mrs. Buchanan will inform you as soon as a new date is determined.

Our varsity soccer teams played against Chapel on Tuesday, September 29. Our girls won (3x0), and maintaining their 1st place in the league and undefeated status. Our boys lost 4 x 0 after a tough game.

We will have varsity soccer games at EAC on Tuesday, October 6. The games will start at 2:45. The bus will leave PACA during the school day and return around 8:30 p.m. Athletes may be dropped off along the way. The bus stops are: Jóquei Clube, Baby Beef/Extra Morumbi and SP Market. Parents, please send your child prepared for a full afternoon and night away, with money for dinner and a means of contacting you for the drive home.

We will have JV basketball games at Chapel on Thursday, October 8, at 5 p.m. The JV girls will play first. Support our JV teams as they get ready for Little 8.

The Everything Kids' Astronomy Book: Blast Into Outer Space with Stellar Facts, Intergalactic Trivia, and Out-of-this-world Puzzles – Kathi Wagner

Sell Books and Editora Mundo Cristão will be in the library on PTS conferences day. Sell Book’s items will be on display from until October 7, so Elementary students can make their wish lists during library class. Books will only be sold on October 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Atualizando Dados
Pais, caso ainda não tenham preenchido os formulários eletrônicos de informações pessoais e médicas dos seus filhos, será exigido que façam isso aqui na escola após as reuniões com os professores no dia 07 de outubro (dia da reunião de pais, mestres e alunos). Por questões de segurança, os alunos cujos formulários ainda não foram entregues não poderão treinar ou jogar com os times, nem participar de excursões.

Dia de Capacitação dos Professores
Devido ao dia de capacitação profissional dos professores, não haverá aula amanhã, dia 02 de outubro.

Campus Fechado
O exame SAT será aplicado na PACA nesse sábado, dia 03 de outubro. O campus estará fechado para quaisquer outras atividades nesse dia.

Reuniões de Pais, Mestres e Alunos
As reuniões de pais, mestres e alunos (PTS conferences) acontecerão na próxima quarta-feira, dia 7 de outubro. Pais, caso ainda não tenham agendado horários para conversar com os professores dos seus filhos, por favor, liguem para a secretaria para fazer isso o quanto antes. Lembramos que a presença dos pais é obrigatória. Os alunos do 2º ao 12º ano participarão das reuniões junto com os seus pais. Após as reuniões, pedimos que todos os pais se dirijam ao laboratório de computação para preencher uma pesquisa importante, que nos é exigida para a renovação do nosso credenciamento junto ao AdvancED e à ACSI.

Na volta, os atletas poderão descer nas seguintes paradas pelo caminho: Jóquei Clube, Baby Beef/Extra Morumbi e SP Market. Pais, por favor, certifiquem-se de que seus filhos estarão preparados para passar a tarde e boa parte da noite fora, e tenham dinheiro para jantar e uma forma de entrar em contato com os senhores na volta para casa.
