News from the Elementary Principal

“Be a READERsaurus” is this year's reading contest's theme.  We will have our opening assembly on Friday, September 28, at 8:15 a.m. in the gym.  The 3rd grade class will present their class play.  Parents are invited to spend the morning doing fun activities with their PACA Elementary student. Please do not bring younger children to the activity time– the activities are not geared for them.  Take this time to spend time with your PACA student.

Elementary students can leave at lunch time only if they have a note from their parents or if their parents pick them up. There will be supervision for those who stay on campus.

An informational letter will go home to the Elementary parents on Friday, September 21.  Please check your child’s folder/agenda.

Outreach Day

The high school students will participate in an Outreach Day on Saturday, September 22, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will work in orphanages and social projects with children and teenagers: Casa Semear, Lar Efrata, Lar Tia Edna, Geração Vida Nova and Casa Limiar.

News from the Guidance Office

The following college visits will take place this week. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend.

o    September 24 – European University – at 11:35 a.m. -  in the computer lab

o    September 28  – Eli 360  - at 9 a.m.  -  in the auditorium

o    September 28   - Canadian Fair -  in the Library

o   October 2 – Sienna Heights University - at 11:35 – in the computer lab

On Saturday, October 20, all 10th and 11th graders need to be at PACA to take the PSAT.  The PSAT is the practice exam for the SAT, which is the most widely accepted college entrance exam in the United States.  The PSAT is the best way for students to practice the SAT and understand how they can focus their efforts and study habits.   Students must arrive by 8 a.m. and should bring pencils and calculators.   This day is considered a school day, and attendance is required.

On the same day,  the seniors that are part of the Brazilian  curriculum will take  the  practice ENEM.  Attendance is also mandatory.

Testing for both groups will be over at approximately 12 p.m.

Walkathon

Parents and students, tie up your shoes and stretch your leg muscles.  The Walkathon 2012 will happen on October 5. The Walkathon 2012 has a different focus this year. Instead of raising money for a school project, we are looking to help others.  Keeping in mind our theme for the year of clothing ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, we are challenging our student to show compassion and kindness by raising money for worthy causes.  The elementary students will help raise funds to buy milk formula for Casa Limiar.  The middle school students will help raise funds for Lar Efrata.  The high school students will help raise funds to help Casa Semear remodel a “favela” home in Jardim São Jorge.  Get ready to walk!

Campus Closed

Our school campus will be closed on Saturday, October 6, due to the SAT exam that will be offered at PACA that day.

PTS Conferences

Pre-K - 12th grade parents, Parent, Teacher, Student (PTS) conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 10. Attendance is required for all parents and for students in grades 2-12. Our office staff is already scheduling conferences. After the conferences, we ask that all parents report to the computer lab, located in our high school wing, to take an important survey, which is part of PACA’s accreditation requirements.

Library News

The PACA library will host SBS (Special Book Services) as they sell new English books for preschool through high school students on Wednesday, October 10 (PTS Conference day). Books can be purchased that day from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Please come with your child to see the fun options for reading after your conferences, so that you have plenty of time to look through the books. Starting on October 2, Elementary students will have their library time to look at the books and make wish lists, if they want. The actual sale will only take place on October 10.

Parents, check out some of the new books added to our library this week:

A venda acontecerá apenas no dia 10.
