Dear Elementary Parents, Each year PACA elementary students look forward to our Annual Elementary Reading Contest! The theme for this year’s Reading Contest is “Buggy for Books”. We will be kicking off our Reading Contest on Friday, October 1. Students will participate in activities, art projects, music, games, and stories about insects. It will be a wonderful time of learning and fun for Elementary students.  Additionally, there will be a special themed lunch served in the cafeteria before dismissing for the half day at 12:50pm. Unfortunately, we are not able to extend an invitation for parents to participate with their children this year. From October 1-29,  we are asking students to read every day to establish the habit of reading for pleasure and to strengthen their reading skills.   15 minutes - Kindergarten (may be read to) and 1st grade 20 minutes - 2nd and 3rd grade 25 minutes - 4th and 5th grade The reading time expectation is: Your child may read in English and/or Portuguese. Reading homework or book reports can be counted toward the time expectation. Students need to read 5 days in a week (which allows two “free” days a week if needed). A reading log will be sent home on Thursday, September 30.   Your child should circle the date each night he/she reads, parents MUST check and sign the slip of paper, and them your child will take a good picture and submit their completed reading logs on the SeeSaw “Reading Contest Class”. Students reading at least 5 times a week will receive a prize, and those who read for all 4 weeks will receive a special reward at the end of the contest. The biggest reward will be an increased love of reading.  There will be additional activities and special events that will take place throughout the month of October. Additionally, the Library will be hosting a Used Book Sale the week of October 18-22. Parents will be able to sign up online for a time to go to the library to purchase books. Prezados Pais do Ensino Fundamental I, Todos os anos, os alunos do ensino fundamental I da PACA ficam ansiosos para o nosso Concurso Anual de Leitura! O tema do Concurso de Leitura deste ano é “Zumbindo com os Livros”. Iniciaremos nosso Concurso de Leitura na sexta-feira, 1º de outubro. Os alunos participarão de atividades, projetos de arte, música, jogos e histórias sobre insetos. Será um momento maravilhoso de aprendizagem e diversão para os alunos do ensino fundamental I. Além disso, haverá um almoço temático especial servido no refeitório antes da saída dos alunos às 12h50. Infelizmente, não podemos estender esse convite para os pais participarem com seus filhos este ano. De  1 a 29 de outubro , pedimos aos alunos que leiam todos os dias para estabelecer o hábito de ler por prazer e fortalecer suas habilidades de leitura. 15 minutos - Kindergarten (alguém poderá ler para a criança) e  1º ano 20 minutos - 2º e 3º anos 25 minutos - 4º e 5º anos A expectativa de tempo de leitura é: Seu/a filho/a pode ler em inglês e / ou português. A leitura feita para a lição de casa pode ser contada para a expectativa de tempo. Os alunos precisam ler 5 dias por semana (o que permite dois dias “livres” por semana, se necessário). Será enviado um formulário para registro da leitura para casa na quinta-feira, 30 de setembro. Seu/a filho/a deve circular a data de cada noite que tenha lido. Os pais DEVEM verificar e assinar o formulário e, em seguida, tirar uma boa foto e enviar a leitura concluída através do SeeSaw  na classe “Reading Contest Class”. Para os alunos que leiam pelo menos 5 vezes na semana receberão um prêmio, e aqueles que completarem todas as 4 semanas de leitura, receberão uma recompensa especial no final do concurso. Entretanto, a maior recompensa será ter um maior amor pela leitura. Haverá atividades adicionais e eventos especiais que acontecerão durante todo o mês de outubro. Além disso, a Biblioteca realizará venda de livros usados na semana de 18 a 22 de outubro. Os pais poderão se inscrever online para comprar livros, se assim desejarem. Consulte o PACA Weekly para obter mais informações.           Esperamos não só que este seja o começo de um amor pela leitura ao longo da vida de seu filho, como também que ele/a esteja entusiasmado/a em usar sua imaginação  “Zumbindo com os Livros”.
