a spirit of generosity.

Greetings!

This is Abby May, and she’s in our preschool.  She wanted to help the school’s special project of updating our elementary classrooms and bathrooms.  She saved up her money and gave her piggy bank to the school on Walkathon day because she wanted to help modernize the elementary classrooms.
Like you, Abby May is developing convictions, values, principles and truth that are centered on the Bible.  Through work and play, she is learning about relationships, community and God’s world. Our preschool program already integrates the Christian Faith and starts the foundation to a college-preparatory education. The PACA education will open doors for students like Abby May to study in the best universities in the USA, Brazil or throughout the world.
We want to offer you a  unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy for  future PACA generations, like Abby May’s, as a way to show your appreciation for the PACA education you received. Join her “spirit of generosity” by making your gift today towards the Modern Classroom Project ( find out more here ). We will recognize your gift on a donor wall. You can make a gift in the name of your family or honor the name of a special loved one or simply add your name.
When PACA was founded in 1960, that generation of men and women desired to create a great Christian school for their children and they gave significantly to build the campus we have today. You can continue and be part of this legacy by making a gift today (in dollars or in reais) . We are creating a donor wall that will list the significant contributions of PACA families, students, and  alumnus, like you , to this project.

Your donation helps us modernize our elementary classrooms to continue those great life-changing conversations . There are a couple of ways you can give. See the “How to Give” section at www.paca.com.br/alumni-campaign.html and choose the option that best suits you.
We are grateful to God for a great community that includes alumni like you and Abby May, for our wonderful teachers that make our educational program so successful, and for the blessing to have a beautiful green campus.

If you need more information, I am available to answer any questions. For details on the project costs, please visit this website:  www.paca.com.br/alumni-campaign.html  or send me an email .

Your chance to make a difference at PACA
" The classrooms are bigger!. "- 1st Grader

Greetings!

Students’ success starts in their early educational years! They learn essential skills like reading, writing and math in those crucial early years. But, their  education at PACA , like you experienced, also went deeper as we developed hearts, souls, and minds .

Like you, students were encouraged to develop convictions, values, principles and truth that were centered on the Bible, so that they could impact the world through ethical, responsible behavior and positive participation in global and local society. Many of these conversations took place in your classrooms.

We want to  continue these life-changing conversations in modern classrooms , and we are asking for your help to make it happen!

We have an ambitious project starting in December 2019 and finishing in January 2020.  This project requires an investment of R$600.000 (US$150,000) to modernize the classrooms and bathrooms for 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade students.

Can we count on your help?

We hired the architecture firm, Sete-Cinco Arquitetura, to create a new learning environment based upon modern classroom research. The new classrooms are designed to include:
1.  Modern and Flexible Furniture: New desks and chairs allow students like you were to learn by coming together to share, collaborate and create. Research shows that children are social learners.

2.  Quieter and Cooler Rooms: New sliding double pained windows and new acoustical ceiling keep the room quieter during rainy days and cooler during hot days. This improves our students’ reading and independent study.

3.  Brighter and Vibrant Colors: Brighter lights and vibrant colors engage our students’ brain activity and learning. Research shows that the balance of light and bright colors positively impacts learning and emotional state.

We have already remodeled the Kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms, and we feel the positive impact of this new look. The 1st grade students say the new classrooms are bigger, and teachers say it is quieter. One student said our new bathrooms look like the ones at the “chique” shopping centers. Kindergarten and 1st grade students are taking pride in their new classrooms.

We want to offer you a unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy for future PACA generations as way to  show your appreciation for the PACA education you received .

We are creating a donor wall that will list the significant contributions of PACA families, students, and alumnus, like you, to this project.

Your donation helps us modernize our elementary classrooms to continue those great life-changing conversations . There are a couple of ways you can give . See the “ How to Give ” section by clicking here and choose the option that best suits you.

Haven't you heard the news?

"And we've heard this story all our lives. Still we feel the pain of the crucified. And the end still comes as a surprise."-Ben Shive (songwriter)

Dear Alumni,

“Haven’t you heard the news?” Two thousand years ago two disappointed men said this to a stranger who joined them on their journey away from Jerusalem.  They told the stranger about how Jesus, a man who held such promise to be the king and savior of Israel, had just been killed on a cross.  The stranger listened to them and began to tell them a story.  He used their sacred scriptures to explain how the savior they were looking for was a servant who would die and through death triumph over evil, suffering, and death.  The men listened intently and invited the stranger to stop with them for dinner.  As the stranger broke bread, they recognized Him for the first time.  It was the man Jesus, who had died in Jerusalem just days before! When Jesus left them, the two men ran back to Jerusalem to find Jesus’ followers and ask, “Have you heard the news?  Jesus is alive!”

In the year 2019, like those two men walking from Jerusalem we often look at our daily life, ourselves, our communities, governments, the world around us, and wonder how anyone can see good news. Evil reigns; self-interest wins; nature is broken; our friends and family suffer; our future is bleak.  The man who held such promise died on a cross.... “Haven’t you heard the news?” we might repeat to anyone who would say otherwise.

For many who have grown up going to church, a Christian school, or who’ve heard Christian friends and family talk, we’ve heard the ‘good news’ so many times.  Jesus is alive. He died to pay for our sins, so that we can have life with God.  Jesus is the most powerful, most loving, and most accessible person we can know.  And yet, somehow, we don’t ‘hear’ this story as good news. We hear it as old news. Or we don’t actually hear it at all.  It’s the nice story that ‘Christian people’ believe.  The too-good-to-be-true story that we aren’t quite sure we believe. Is it good news?

C.S. Lewis’ mission in “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” was to give us a new way to “hear” and understand the story of the gospel. He took a story many thought they knew, and through the imaginative world he created, he challenged his readers to see the story in a new light. In the same way, we hope you might think about this story in a fresh way tonight.  Maybe you’ve heard this story your whole life, and maybe you haven’t. Is it really good news or a story you take for granted?

In the year 2019, a stranger walks up to us, asks why we are so discouraged, and if we have ears to listen and eyes to see, begins to speak to us saying “I am the resurrection and the life...”

     Have you heard the news?

From Robin Rugg, Superintendent:

I am thankful to the many students, teachers, parents, alumni and friends who made “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” possible. God has blessed our community with many talented individuals, who came together to support this production. We had over 250 attendees at both Friday and Saturday night performances. I am always amazed at the talents God gives to our students. During this Thanksgiving season, I am grateful for God’s faithfulness and provision over my personal family and over the PACA family. I wish you a Great Thanksgiving.

Big Results

Dear Alumnus,

Throughout the years of PACA going to sports tournaments or games, whether it was at Rancho Ranieri, Paiol, NR or another school, we always have a greater purpose than just playing sports. We are going for a chance to represent God’s Kingdom.

At this year’s Big 8 Tournament, eight schools and over 450 varsity student athletes were present at this semester’s soccer and basketball tournament.  PACA took close to 60 athletes this year to play against ASA, Chapel, EAB, EAC, EARJ, Graded and OLM. The Big 8 is a week-long tournament with 2 games played every day. The first 3 days were dedicated to soccer.  The last 3 days were dedicated to basketball and cheerleading.

Considering the size of our student body, we are blessed by God to have such dedicated athletes and coaches who trained hard and represented the name “Warrior” with pride. PACA placed 3rd in overall competition with 1st Place in Girls’ Basketball, 3rd Place in Boys’ Basketball, 3rd Place in Boys’ Soccer and 7th Place in Girls’ Soccer.

Our athletes and coaches show great school spirit at each game by cheering each team (PACAlândia! PACAlândia!). We share meals together and even have study hall together.  We encourage our students through devotions and singing together. I encouraged our students to glorify God by playing with excellence, giving their best within the rules, respecting the referees and treating each other with respect and honor.

I believe this helps us fulfill our mission of “impacting their world through Christ.” It is encouraging to see our students connecting with their peers from other schools and building relationships. Several times, many coaches approached me to say how special our students are and how they clearly represent the Christian values the school stands for.  My prayer is that these interactions can be seeds planted for God’s Kingdom and someday lead to deeper conversations about faith in Jesus.

You should see how beautiful is the location of the Big 8 Tournament. The beautiful camp of Nosso Recanto (NR) is located in the southern mountainous region of Minas Gerais, close to Campos de Jordão. NR is nestled in this lusciously green valley surrounded by forest-covered mountains with crystal clear spring water flowing through the grounds. I even challenged the students to see God’s glory manifested in His creation.

We are grateful to God for this year’s results. We are grateful to Him for the athletes and families He has brought to our school. We are grateful for the opportunity to play sports for a whole week in a beautiful location.  Keep us in your prayers. Pray on our behalf that we not lose sight of the opportunity to “love our God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind. And to love our neighbor as yourself.”

Sincerely,
Renato Sousa – Class of 1999

Outstanding College-Level Achievement due to AP Performance
Dear Friend of PACA,

We want to recognize several of our PACA students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP Exams.

Taking AP courses in high school could give you an advantage in college by letting you: stand out to colleges, earn college credit, develop college level skills, and save money and time. Research consistently shows that AP students are better prepared for college than students who don’t take AP. They’re more likely to enroll and stay in college, do well in their classes, and graduate in four years.

We want to congratulate the following students for their AP results.

AP Scholar with Distinction
Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Rebecca Deal - Class of 2019

Kyung Ryun (David) - Class of 2019
Julia Y. Pai - Class of 2019

AP Scholar with Honor
Granted to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Nicolle Cetertick - Class of 2020
David Lee - Class of 2020
Sophia dos Santos - Class of 2020

Rose and the Rime

We've lived each moment on this planet literally going in circles within circles. It's the definition of a day. It's the definition of a year. But where are we going? Are we getting anywhere?
Dear Friend of PACA,

Circles and Lines: A Reflection on  Rose and the Rime

It takes 365 days for the earth to complete its orbit around the sun. It takes 24 hours for the earth to rotate completely on its axis. We've lived each moment on this planet literally going in circles within circles. It's the definition of a day. It's the definition of a year. But where are we going? Are we getting anywhere?

Many belief systems have taken nature's cycles to mean something profound about our daily existence. We run in place. History repeats itself. We are born, we live, we die. Repeat ad nauseum, and the circle never ends.

Other belief systems have shunned these cycles claiming, "Humanity will overcome history through a line of progress." Death will come, but we will get farther. The circle will be broken. Maybe, one day, we will even overcome death.

Rose and the Rime  places us right between these two belief systems where we find ourselves asking the question: Is history a circle or a line? Are we bound to the cycles of nature, or can we move beyond them?

Christianity has also been placed in the crosshairs of this question.

While the Bible reveals that cycles of sin and death have prevailed throughout time, it also reveals that Jesus' entrance into the world provided a means for these cycles to end and for a way forwards to be possible through him. His death provides salvation from slavery to these cycles. His resurrection provides the hope of a step forward into a new story. For those who believe in him, a future stands beyond death where we will be resurrected like Him. Each day and year that we lived circling the sun will be given new meaning and a new orbit as we see the past transformed by the lens of the gospel.

Through Jesus, the ordinary cycles of each day now hold a way forward, and it's not determined by us. We are going somewhere through the cross. Our past, present, and future are made new through the work of Jesus.

We invite you to reflect on these questions and the gospel's answer as you enjoy our show. Thank you for coming!

We thank you being a part of our PACA family. We ask that you keep praying over the school as we nurture hearts, develop minds and educate for eternity.

Sincerely,
‌

National Giving Day Project

26/11/2018

Dear Alumnus,

It’s National Giving Day - #givingtuesday! You can make a difference at PACA by making us a destination of your generosity and by challenging your classmates to join you.  And we have a special project for you to consider.

Our goal this year is to upgrade our elementary learning environments as part of our continual school improvement plan.  Every year we focus on improving an area of the school.  This year our need is to update our six elementary classrooms and the four bathrooms on the elementary wing.

In the classrooms, we want to improve the lighting and acoustics of each room. This means laying a new floor to help with acoustics and to make the rooms brighter, buying new desks and chairs, and installing new LED lighting to help brighten the learning environments while reducing the consumption of energy.

For the four bathrooms in the elementary wing, they need a complete remodel from floor to ceiling. This means new flooring, new wall tiles, new sinks, new toilets, new faucets (that save water!), new ceiling and new lights (that save energy). Both projects together will cost close to US$72,000.

We are inviting alumnus like you to make a gift towards this project.  You can make our elementary students feel so special and you will bless many generations of students with your gift this year. Our timeline is to complete these projects by the end of 2019.

If you want to make a gift in dollars, you can give today – just click here.

If you want to make a gift in Reais, find out more here.

Every donation will help us improve the school.  Join us in making PACA’s Special Project a destination of your giving this year between November 27 and December 31.

We thank you for your gift. Your generosity will bless another generation of students from PACA.  Keep praying over us we look to God to help us nurture and prepare young people, through quality education rooted in biblical truth, to impact their world through Christ.

Sincerely,

Robin Dale Rugg
