Justin Bieber’s song, “First Place” Brings His Fans With Him on His Personal Journey to Recovery.

“First Place” by Justin Bieber was released on August 13, 2025, for his seventh studio album “SWAG.” This album is pivotal in Bieber’s career for two reasons. First of all, this is his first new project in four years. Due to a physical health crisis, he was forced to cancel all his tours in 2022 when he experienced facial paralysis due to Ramsay Hunt syndrome.

Secondly, this new album is significant because it is the first album in which he did not have Scooter Braun managing his album. Braun served as his executive producer for his previous six albums, and this album represents his complete break from traditional production.

Justin usually writes songs in the genre of pop or R&B. This song, though it was still R&B, was a more sensitive and intimate take than his usually upbeat music. Perhaps, the fact that he was spending time in Iceland, recording his music at Flóki Studios, a scenic and remote studio located on the Trollaskagi Peninsula.

Specifically, in writing this song, “First Place,” he dedicated it to his wife of seven years, Hailey Bieber. Justin shares deep lyrics talking about their relationship together. Even with all their ups and downs, they will always be each other’s ‘first place.’

You can see this in his lyrics, especially when he says,

“Where do I begin,It’s been this way for a long time.”

It portrays a relationship that is both wonderful to be a part of, but difficult to maintain. There are subtle sad notes mixed in with upbeat instrumentals that are heavily synthesized. Although the lyrics tend to be superficial, they are sung with a sincere tone through Justin Bieber’s vocals on the track.

“First Place” is only one of the many new songs on Justin Bieber’s new album, “SWAG,” but it will let fans feel a bit of nostalgia in the way that it reminds them of past songs he has produced.

Unfortunately, most of the other songs on the album are not appropriate for young children as they are hyper-focused in a sensual sense and provide a lot of tension and frustration on this level.

Nevertheless, the song, “First Place” provides a different feeling which is portrayed in the music video that Justin’s team made to go with it. From sitting in his living room recording his songs, surrounded by friends, to sitting alone on a tin roof and smiling out on the breathtaking landscape of the Icelandic snowy mountains, to snowboarding across the countryside, he seems to be taking the time to enjoy the most important things that take ‘first place’ in his life.
