MAP Testing

Measure of Academic Progress

elementary and middle school program

What is MAP Testing?

MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) is an internationally recognized assessment developed by NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association - https://www.nwea.org/map-growth/). It is a computer-adaptive test that measures a student’s academic growth over time in subjects such as Reading, Mathematics, and Language.

Unlike traditional tests, MAP adjusts to each student’s level in real time. When a student answers a question correctly, the test becomes more challenging. When a student answers incorrectly, the test adjusts to an easier level. This creates a personalized assessment experience that accurately identifies each student’s current understanding.

Why PACA Uses MAP Testing
At PACA, we are committed to academic excellence and continuous growth. MAP testing aligns with our mission by providing reliable, data-driven insights that help us support every student effectively.

We use MAP because it:

  • Measures individual growth, not just grade-level performance

  • Provides immediate and actionable data for teachers

  • Supports personalized instruction in the classroom

  • Aligns with international academic standards

  • Helps track progress throughout the school year

By using MAP, PACA ensures that teaching is intentional, targeted, and responsive to each student’s needs.

Benefits for Parents
MAP testing is not just a school tool—it is also a powerful resource for families.

1. Clear Understanding of Your Child’s Progress
MAP reports show exactly where your child is academically and how much they have grown over time. This gives you a clearer picture beyond report cards.

2. Focus on Growth, Not Just Grades
Instead of comparing students to others, MAP focuses on individual progress. Parents can see how their child is improving year after year.

3. Personalized Learning Insights
MAP results help teachers tailor instruction, which means your child receives support or challenges exactly where needed.

4. Early Identification of Needs
If a student is struggling or excelling, MAP data helps identify this early so that interventions or enrichment can be provided promptly.

5. Strong School–Home Partnership

MAP reports provide a common language for conversations between parents and teachers, making meetings more meaningful and productive.

How MAP Supports Your Child
At PACA, MAP testing is used as a tool for growth, not pressure. Students are encouraged to do their best, and results are used to guide learning—not define ability.

Teachers analyze MAP data to:

  • Adjust lesson plans

  • Create small group instruction

  • Set academic goals with students

  • Monitor progress throughout the year

This ensures that every PACA Warrior is supported on their unique learning journey.

Our Commitment at PACA
As a school community, we believe in nurturing each student academically, socially, and spiritually. MAP testing is one of the tools that helps us fulfill this mission with excellence.

By partnering with parents and using trusted systems like NWEA MAP, PACA continues to equip students to grow, achieve, and thrive.
